Reflection

1. The purpose of this blogging activity was to show us that we have the ability to show and share what we are interested about. I also believe that the purpose of this blog was to show how we are capable of producing high quality work to people around the world. I think that Ms. Rumford chose blogging instead of more traditional writing activities to make it more interesting to us. I believe this because it usually is really boring to sit in front of a desk just writing. You see, we can but pictures and videos to help explain our opinions instead of explaining the examples we would have given. This was much more interesting than just writing with a pen and paper in a very quite room.

2. What I have accomplished during my blogging was how to make my sentences more captivating and detailed. Although I learned this during class, it really did help me. I have also learned how to use a blog, which was interesting. I learned how to make posts, pages, and how to insert videos and pictures. This was actually tricky because at first they didn’t appear but once Ms. Rumford showed me how it was actually easy. I have made many accomplishments and these are just to name a few and I have enjoyed learning these skills.

3. The key concepts I have learned have helped me a lot. One of the key concepts I have learned was the different sentence structures. These sentences structures are: simple sentences, complex sentences, compound sentences, and compound-complex sentences. For simple sentences you only have one main clause while for compound sentences you need two independent clause connected by a conjunction. Then for a complex sentences you need one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses. While for a compound-complex sentence you need two independent clauses with one or more dependent clauses. These are the key concepts I have learned while blogging.

4. These skills I have learned while blogging will help benefit me in the future a lot. Learning sentence structures will help me when writing essays and just writing for fun. This will enhance my writing and hopefully impress my teachers and organizations that I want to join. Also they skills I learned during blogging will help me in the future too. I feel like I can express my opinions in a different way now. I can use this new information on how to make a blog by making one for one of my classes to support a group or activity. I could upload the latest videos and pictures and post necessary information. Overall I believe that the skills I have learned will benefit me a lot.

HelloGoodBye

During summer a couple of years ago I turned on the radio, to my favorite station 104.1 KRBE, this is when my ears heard the song “Here (In Your Arms)”, enthralled by the techno music, I was instantly attached.  HelloGoodBye was something fresh that I hadn’t ever really heard before, it was something new to love and enjoy listening to. This band is yet another fresh band because it started up in 2001, also, this bands name was inspired by the Beatles, just like how Panic! at the Disco was inspired by the Beatles (connections).

HelloGoodBye was formed by Forrest Kline (vocals, guitar, primary songwriter) in Huntington Beach, California. The current members are Joseph Marro (keyboard), Aaron Flora (drums 2001-2003, 2008-present), Travis Head (bass), Ryan Daly (guitar), plus Forrest Kline (mentioned above). HelloGoodBye also have five former members, which are: Chris Profeta(2003-2008), Parker Case (2001), Paul Michael White Jr. (2001), Marcus Cole (2002-2007), and Jesse Kurvink (2001-2008).

Even though they have had many changes in band members throughout their years of being on the music scene, they still have made spectacular music, even including a video, which contains 120 minutes of HelloGoodBye goodness. This video was called OMG HGB DVD ROTFL (internet slang), also known as Oh My God/ HelloGoodBye/ Digital Versatile Disc/ Rolling on the floor laughing. Containing two hours of music videos, tour footage, a full 40-minute concert, and a 30-minute acoustic set.

Drive-Thru Records signed them onto their label, which boosted their musical status and wound them up into making an album called “Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!”. On the U.S. Billboard 100 it gave them the 13th spot and on the U.K. charts it gave them the 17th spot. This albums number one song was “Here (In Your Arms)” getting the 3rd spot on U.S. Dance Airplay, and 9th on U.S. Pop 100, turning this single platinum. They also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and, Last Call with Carson Daly, in the same month when “Here (In Your Arms)” went platinum.

HelloGoodBye was also one of the lucky bands that booked a gig on Vans Warped Tour. This, personally in my opinion, contains some of the best musical bands in the universe. They also toured with The All-American Rejects, Motion City Soundtrack, and Panic! at the Disco, this eventually landed them a headlining tour with Boys like Girls.

This band is always surprising me with new and fun sounds that capture my imagination. I hope to be hearing new songs from them soon and I also hope that you will go and check out their amazing songs and enjoy listening to them.

Here’s a song from them:

“The Academy Is…” here

Springing up from Chicago, Illinois, The Academy Is… basically fresh and young in the music business, for it was formed in 2003. This band is put under the category “Indie Rock”, which Urban Dictionary defines it as short for independent rock. Meaning that the music is independent of major labels or mainstream music. Although they are signed with the ever popular record label Decaydance, which is related to Fueled by Ramen (this is a label too.). Surprisingly the person who had signed The Academy Is… was none other than Pete Wentz, who is from Fall Out Boy. This band includes five members: William Beckett (lead vocals), Adam T. Siska (bass, backing vocals), Mike Carden (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Michael Guy Chislett (lead guitar, backing vocals, piano), and Andy ‘The Butcher’ Mrotek (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

This fresh new band has released three albums since 2003: “Almost Here”, “Santi”, and their newest album “Fast Times at Barrington High”. “Almost here”, released on February 8, 2005, landed them a headlining tour with the Plain White T’s, Days Away, and June. This gave them number 185 on The Billboard 200, which, in my opinion, is excellent for a bands first album. While the album “Santi”, released on April 3, 2007, peaked The Billboard 200 at number 32. This was even better than last time as you can clearly see. Then came along their third album “Fast Times at Barrington High”, released August 19, 2008. This album’s title referred to the high school where founders, William Beckett and Adam Siska, went to school. This particular album shot up to number 17 on The Billboard 200, this put them 15 spots further up on this highly valued list of best music. Also this album was honored in the Rolling Stone Magazine’s 50 best albums, earning the 46th spot.

This band has been slowly making its way up the ladder of fame over the past six years, earning my interest and many more people’s. Ever since I heard them on the Warped Tour album I have been faithfully glued to their music and am impressed by their growing popularity. Their songs have swept my thoughts away into a dream world where hopefully they will take you to some day. Hopefully you will take my opinions and facts of The Academy Is… and take it upon yourself to listen to one of their wonderful Indie rock songs.

This is one of there songs:

Relient K

This band here is slightly different then the other bands I have presented to you before because this particular band is still considered rock/punk but it is a Christian rock/punk band. Relient K consists of 5 members, yet only two of them are original founders of the band. The two original members of Relient K are Matt Theissen (lead vocals, guitar, piano, and cow bell) and Matt Hoopes (guitarist and backing vocals), while the other members that joined later are: John Warne (bassist, and backing vocals), John Schneck (guitarist, bell, backing vocals and banjo player), and Ethan Luck (drummer).

The variety and interesting instruments they use to produce these stunning songs is what makes them so unique. Also this band’s name has a history, you see they decided upon this name from Matt Hoopes’ Plymouth Reliant K car, which they change the spelling so as to not copy the car’s trademark. All of this is what makes them an interesting band to learn about, but not only is their background interesting their music is enticing to listen to.

Since 1998 Relient K has been making music and producing albums. They have made six albums with their fifth album (Five Score and Seven Years Ago) debuting at number six on the US Billboard 200, which sold 60,000 in its debut week. The album before their fifth, Mmhmm, reached number fifteen on the US Billboard 200. Over the years Relient K has sold two million albums, which has given them two Dove Awards, and a Grammy Nomination. Also they have created songs for the ever-popular Veggie Tales movies, bringing them more fame and spotlights.

Personally I only had to listen to one of Relient K’s music to become a loyal fan, and this album was Five Score and Seven Years Ago. There music is truly inspirational in a time of need or trouble/doubt. There songs range from upbeat to mellow to sad, all including fantastic lines that bend the mind. My personal favorites are “Bite My Tongue”, “Forgiven”, and “Must Have Done Something”. These particular songs have some very unique verses and lines that make these songs dance in your mind. I believe that Relient K uses wit when creating these songs to catch your attention and draw you in. This is why these songs are some of my favorites and will stay with me forever and I hope that this will stay with you.

Panic for Panic! at the Disco

In 2005 Panic! at the Disco released their album “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out”. This album rocketed them to #13 on the US Billboard 200. This alternative punk/emo album sold 2.2 million copies. This gave them the boost they need to send them into the fast paced lane of fame. As you may or may not know this album contains the wonderful songs “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and “Build God then We’ll Talk”. These memorable songs were made famous by the tantalizing singing of Brendon Urie, the buzz worthy guitar playing of Ryan Ross, the intoxicating drumming of Spencer Smith, and the deep strums of the bass by Jon Walker.

The first time I heard this stunning group was about 2-3 years ago when my sister slammed her earphone into my ear. The instant I heard the sound that came through these headphones I was addicted. This band has truly become one of my top 10 bands of all time. Now, more than ever, have I become addicted to their songs due to their new album “Pretty. Odd.” This album was released March 28, 2008, over a year ago. This Beatles inspired album landed them the #2 spot on the US Billboard 200. “Pretty. Odd.” has brought us back to the days of the Beatles with a modern twist. Their most dazzling song is “Nine in the Afternoon”.

From the first time I heard “Pretty. Odd.” it instantly reminded me of the movie “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. This movie was without dialogue, but it used the Beatles songs to tell a story (it’s in color too.). I imagined all the songs forming together and making a movie like “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. If you were to listen to this album I bet it would remind you of the sensational music made by the Beatles.

This group has absolutely grabbed my attention from the moment Brendon Urie sung into my ear through my sister’s earphones. I believe, and hope, that this band will also grab you imagination and attention with the intoxicating lyrics and music made by Panic! at the Disco.

Fall Out Boy Forever

This band is one of my personal favorites and I highly recommend listening to this band. From there first hit “Dance Dance” to their new album “ Folie a Deux”. Their name is Fall Out Boy, they chose this name when they stumbled upon the character in the Simpsons named Fall Out Boy. This superhero inspired their name and has reached fame in the years it has served as this bands name.

Fall Out Boy consists of four members, Patrick Stump (lead vocals), Pete Wentz (bass guitarist), Joe Trohman (guitarists), and Andy Hurley (drums). You may know Pete Wentz from MTV or when he just recently got married to Ashley Simpson. Pete Wentz is basically the spokesman for Fall Out Boy due to his charm and star quality. This alone did not make Fall Out Boy what it is today though; this is due to the amazing catchiness of their songs and the constant nagging of their songs in your head after listening to it. Also the amazing vocals from their lead singer, Patrick Stump, sent them into an upward spiral into fame. Their faces have graced covers from People to the Rolling Stones magazines and have captured many teens with their alternative punk music style.

Through out there lives they have made six albums: “Evening Out with Your Girl”, “Take This to Your Grave”, “From Under the Cork Tree”, “Infinity on High”, “Live in Phoenix”, and “Folie a Deux”. Their most popular albums were “From Under the Cork Tree” and “Infinity on High”, these albums include such hits as “Dance Dance”, “Sugar, We’re Goin Down”, “Thanks for the Memories” and “This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race”. These are popular for the majority but personally my favorite songs they have made are “Hum Hallelujah” and “Don’t You Know Who I think I Am”.

Fall Out Boy, in my opinion, is one of the most memorable bands of all time and hopefully will live through these coming generations. Surely if you have not heard of this band then you have been living in a shell for your whole life.

Fall Out Boy- Thanks for the Memories
